For those of you staying in LA for Thanksgiving Break, the OAC is planing a backcountry camping trip to Joshua Tree to sweat out all that turkey and gravy. Joshua Tree is a national park about 2.5 hours east of LA. It's famous for crazy looking trees and rocks. It is a huge rock climbing destination, feel free to bring gear if you have it, but there won't be an official climbing itinerary.

Given the holiday weekend, we expect it will be impossible to get a camp site in one of the park's campground. The good news is that we can camp for free almost anywhere else as long as you park in certain lots and hike at least 1 mile away from the road.

We will meet/park at the "Pine City Backcountry Board" and hike just over 1 mile north so we can camp legally.

For reference, this should be an easier hike than the beginner Kings Canyon bridge week trip.

Cost should be minimal - food, gas, and any rental gear that you need.

Weather - this time of year highs are usually in the 70s and lows in the 50s. There is no water, the recommendation is to carry 1 gallon per person, per day.
