[EA] Speaker Series with Soylent Co-Founders David Renteln & John Coogan

In 2012 David Renteln, John Coogan, Rob Rhinehart, and Matt Cauble moved into a house in Sunnyvale together. One year later, the group co-founded Soylent, a meal replacement beverage that generated almost $1.5M in preorders via a crowdfunding campaign that same year.

Come join us for the next installment of EA's Real Talk Speaker Series event featuring co-founders David Renteln and John Coogan as they tell the story behind the entrepreneurial journey that led to Soylent and how they managed early stage fundraising, brand development, e-commerce strategy, and successfully pivoting their marketing strategy.

David Renteln has a degree in Biology from Harvard College where he was president of the rugby team. He was pursuing a graduate degree in Biology from Caltech, but he dropped out to co-found Soylent where he served as Chief Marketing Officer. As CMO his responsibilities included Creative, Customer Service, Digital Marketing, Brand and Experiential Marketing, and PR. He lives in Silverlake with his wife, Xochitl, and his Rhodesian Ridgeback, Remy, and has started a new company with John.

John Coogan has a degree in Economics from Northeastern University. As Co-Founder of Soylent, John Coogan fulfilled a variety of roles ranging from marketing, ecommerce strategy, engineering, and finance. From 2013 to 2017, he served as Chief Technology Officer where he managed a team of software engineers and data scientists focused Soylent's web presence, building e-commerce, order management, and fulfillment software. John lives in Echo Park with his fiancé, Emily, and his Newfoundland, Gustavo. He's currently working on a new company with David.
