Lunch and Learn seminar on optimization featuring Ph.D. candidate Bobby Nyotta.

Companies of all sizes and across all industries regularly apply optimization across their business to improve their operations and maximize their efficiency. For example, organizations from Amazon to Johnson & Johnson to Zara are built on optimization-based solutions. Unfortunately, many people are unfamiliar with what optimization is, when it can be used, and how to implement it.

In this talk we'll explain and give several examples of how it has been successfully used in practice and answer the following questions:
- What is optimization and where does it sit in the analytics toolbox, relative to other methods such as data analysis, machine learning, artificial intelligence, etc?
- What are characteristics of business problems that can be addressed / solved / mitigated with optimization?
- Examples from different industries of how optimization was used to help solve a problem and improve the business. How do we quantify the impact in either revenue gained, time saved, or other KPI's?
- If you're a manager or leading a project, who should you hire / seek out if you think you have a problem that can use an optimization-based solution? What sort of profiles should you be looking for?
