Strategy & Ops Winter Course Preview - Meet Your Professors
Thursday, December 3rd @ 2-3pm PST
Join us for a Strategy & Operations course preview with Professor Poloquin and Professor Corbett. They will be teaching core classes [MGMT 410] Operations Technology Management and [MGMT 420] Business Strategy to 1st Years next quarter. We will discuss topics relevant to business decision-making, from corporate social activism to big data sustainability. 
You will have an opportunity to ask the professors any questions you may have about these upcoming courses, engage with the given topics, and discuss Strategy & Operations in general.

Analytics Intro: Tableau
Friday, December 4th @ 12-1pm PST
Join us for SOMA's second analytics workshop of the academic year focused on Tableau.
About the Course: Tableau is a data visualization platform that is used across all industries and is an extremely valuable tool for anyone working in strategy or operations. Knowing how to utilize Tableau will be a huge advantage when speaking to it in interviews and leveraging it during your internship and full-time positions. Data Science Workshops
Throughout the quarter, The Data Science Center at UCLA Library and the UCLA Institute for Digital Research & Education host various workshops involving various programing languages such as R and Python, and about topics such as deep learning and neural networks. Be sure to check out the calendars in each of the links and sign up early if interested!
 

Purdue University Graduation Case Competition
The GSCMI Center at Krannert School of Management, Purdue University would like to invite your school to participate in the 2020-2021 Phase1 Intercollege Graduate Case Competition. The competition consists of two phases: Phase1 serves as a virtual qualifying/ elimination round, and Phase2 [involving the top 3-6 qualifying schools (depending on registration numbers) from Phase 1] will occur in conjunction with the GSCMI Spring Conference hosted virtually this year through Purdue University in February 2021. The qualifying teams will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and knowledge to conference industry judges. Case Topic: related to supply chain.

Registration Deadline: December 8, 2020.

Only one team per university allowed to register (if more than one registers from a university, the earlier registry will be selected)

Timeline:

December 14: Teams receive Case Phase 1
January 4: Case Submission Due Phase 1 (due to holidays and final exams, a longer period of time is given to work on the case)
January 19: Finalists Determined and notified.
February 17-19, 2021: Virtual Intercollege Case Competition, Purdue University. (Details regarding the logistics of phase 2 will be shared later with qualifying teams).Case phase 2 provided to teams on Feb 17, PowerPoint presentation file due via email Feb 18, virtual live presentation Feb 19 at GSCMI conference judged by industry panel of judges.


Prize Money for final round (Phase 2) winners: 

1st- $5,000
2nd- $2,000
3rd- $1,000

AI and advanced analytics play a critical role in helping maximize investments in new tech and mining the most insights from data, wherever an organization is on its digitalization journey. At the STAT Health Tech Summit in September, virtual attendees were asked what technology has been most useful to their organization during the pandemic:

  • 23 percent responded “analytics to forecast the pandemic”
  • 30 percent reported digital-first communication
