Club Updates

 

Apply for SOMA 1st Year Director Roles!
Looking to get more involved with SOMA and develop leadership skills? 1st year director roles are now open to apply through this form here. We encourage those interested to read through the list of responsibilities and chat with the current VP to gain a better understanding of expectations (but is not required to meet with a VP). The list of director roles and VP emails are also listed in the instructions of the form. Applications are due by 10/14, and the results will be announced on 10/20. We look forward to reading your applications!

Club Survey
We are looking for input to better understand our club members to better tailor our workshops this year. The survey will take 5-10 minutes and will be where you can indicate your preference for club swag. You can find the survey here

Week 2 | Primers: What is strategy, operations, and analytics? Come learn from 2nd years how roles within these industries differ and overlap, and learn about the difference in interview prep team (IPT) workshops. To attend, sign up for the primer events below! NOTE: the last newsletter indicated a separate primer for analytics, but have been combined into one event, so please now sign up for the combined primer! Please also note that date has changed from Tuesday to Thursday.


Week 3 | Behavioral Storytelling: We will have workshops where 2nd years will discuss different approach to behavioral questions and what interviewers are looking for. Operations and Strategy will have different workshops, sign up via the links below!

Supply Chain Panel Discussion with Facebook

This event will be a panel of speakers across different teams that work in Supply Chain at Facebook. They will define the differences of the work they do and answer questions asked in the form by those who RSVP!

Data Science Workshops
Throughout the quarter, The Data Science Center at UCLA Library and the UCLA Institute for Digital Research & Education host various workshops involving various programing languages such as R and Python, and about topics such as deep learning and neural networks. Be sure to check out the calendars in each of the links and sign up early if interested!

Anderson Strategy Group recruiting top first-year MBA talent for Spring consulting engagements

Anderson Strategy Group is a non-profit, student-run consulting firm at the UCLA Anderson School of Management dedicated to developing strategic solutions to critical business problems while advancing consulting skills within the Anderson community. Our projects span functions such as corporate strategy, market entry, and operational improvement.

ASG will provide 20 students with both academic and hands-on preparation for a career in strategy through a four-credit Winter course featuring Derek Alderton, a former McKinsey Partner, as well as a 10-week client engagement in the Spring. Our alumni have gone on to intern and work at the world’s leading consulting firms, technology companies, and other strategy practices.

25th Annual International Case Competition



The Operations and General Management Club at Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business is excited to invite the UCLA Anderson School of Management to participate in the 25th Annual International Case Competition (ICC). Teams will work to solve current business challenges in Operations Strategy, Supply Chain Management, and Sustainability, and compete for up to $5,000. The ICC offers participating MBA students an opportunity to connect with ICC corporate sponsors Honeywell and Emerson for networking and recruiting opportunities. Additional details about the competition, including awards, can be found at TepperICC.com.

The ICC is open to teams of up to 5 MBA students with a limit of two teams per school. Case material will be distributed 5 days prior to the competition and slide submissions will be due on November 13th. Teams can register here.

ICC Timeline:
  • November 1 - Registration closes
  • November 9 - Case released
  • November 13 - Presentations from ICC sponsors, slides due
  • November 14 - Competition date
