Save the Date – SOMA Hack-A-Thon, April 17^th!

Come practice your data analysis and visualization skills at the SOMA Hackathon. This event will be a fun way to practice and sharpen your data skills, win ca$h money, and poke around some LA mobility data. This will be a short hackathon – just an afternoon – rather than a full blown case comp, with an emphasis on this being a fun way for people to keep building their data skills. Open for people of all skill levels! For now, save the date and stay tuned for more info soon.
 

Social Impacting Consulting Corps Applications (Due March 10th)

The Social Impact Consulting Corps unites MBA students and the academic community with nonprofit organizations and social enterprises to help achieve greater social impact. Over the course of a nine-to-ten-week consulting engagement across the spring quarter, your team will provide strategic and operational guidance to participating organizations to overcome challenges such as fiscal management, operations, marketing, and leadership transition. You can also apply as an individual or partial team and we can match make if needed!

· Access to exclusive impact consulting workshops with notable alumni:

o Jim Moffat – former CEO, Deloitte Consulting

o Dilip Wagle – Senior Partner, Mckinsey

o Gayle Northrop – President, Northrop Non-Profit Consulting

· Flexible schedule: 3-5 hours/week for 2 units towards graduation

· Resume Booster: provides consulting and project management experience

Examples of potential projects:

· Help a company that drills wells bringing safe water and sanitation to Western Africa rethink its fundraising positioning and set up its corporate governance for the long-term.

· Build a financial model for a nonprofit to demonstrate how to make regenerative agriculture financially viable.

· Identify potential revenue streams for organization that facilitates development of affordable homes across southern California.

Caselet Writing w/ Professor Karmarkar
Prof. Karmarkar is looking to form a small group of students [2-3] to put together short cases on important current topics. One of the problems faced all the time in teaching is that the HBS cases are often too old and too late, and also not oriented to some of the key issues of interest in our classes. For example, the best Amazon case he can find is at 2016, the best Google case is 2014, the Disney case is 1995. Now professors try to bring these up to date, but that is just in the class discussion!

Since this is a pilot with SOMA, he is thinking of producing possibly 2-3 caselets and is super flexible with timing. If you are interested, contact gabriela.gonzalez.2020@anderson.ucla.edu!
